Katawa Shoujo review – Oh, Japan…

Most games I tend to hear about either via friends or gaming news websites. I don’t particularly claim to be an expert (although you should probably treat me as such… You may call me Professor Sabor117 from now on…) but I do consider myself pretty clued up on the goings on of the Gaming world. So when I heard about Katawa Shoujo on an online image board (because I am indeed a denizen of the internet) and nowhere else I admit I was intrigued. Even more intriguing, and indeed surprising, was the general reaction of the internet to the game. It’s a common thing on the internet to find a post which people can claim “gave me a feel” and usually the feel in question will be one of sadness or depression. Something which essentially evokes the following reaction: “Lie down. Try not to cry. Cry a lot.” Katawa Shoujo apparently gave so many people feels that the whole internet was abuzz for a fair amount of time about just how wonderful the game was, how the stories (or some of the stories in particular) spread feels about in every direction with no regard for manliness or lifting ability. And fresh from the truly heart-wrenching experience of The Walking Dead I was more than ready to pull out my handkerchief again.

Retrospectacles – A Little Look at Dune II

It’s a bit of an interesting week here at MMGaming as three of the four current writers just got Guild Wars 2 and we are all going to probably be sinking a fair amount of time into this over the next few days/weeks/months/forever. With that in mind we haven’t actually got an official review or anything for you today and so to make sure we do have a post up you can check out a video that Tim made a short while ago. In this particular short video Tim has a little look at Dune II a classic RTS from the developers Westwood Studios. The game is based on the famous movie Dune from David Lynch which in turn was based on a book of the same name written by Frank Herbert. That isn’t the only famous thing about the game that is famous though, in fact Dune II is often considered to be one of the first true RTSes. It created a formula from which pretty much all current strategy games have no deviated. More than that the developer went on to create other really massive RTS games like Command & Conquer Red Alert. While the game itself might be old and shows it’s age when Tim plays it, it’s definitely worth checking out the video because here we have real video gaming history in what was the game that started the long line of RTSes we have today. You should check it out after the jump!

Endweek News – A writer sues Ubisoft, Halo 4 get’s a release date, Trailers for God of War and 0x10c are everywhere and Arkham City content get’s teased

Once again (due to the excuses I lined out last week) I again failed to post any Midweek News this past week. As well as that, this session of Endweek News was hastily researched and thrown together, you’ll just have to forgive me for these things as I have been rather busy. That said most of the news from this past week is actually trailers and other videos, so less reading for you guys. I will say no more on it but jump straight into the news!

Game of Thrones: Riverspring Trailer

The title here says it all. It’s a trailer for the upcoming Game of Thrones RPG and it introduces a city called Riverspring which is ruled over by a family called the Sarwycks. Wait hang on, they’ve actually decided to introduce MORE characters to the Song of Ice and Fire? And a whole town that DOESN’T appear on any maps of Westeros so far. I would’ve thought that with hundreds of characters who aren’t main characters in the books to choose from and a whole world of detailed cities and towns, they wouldn’t need to create a whole new town and family House for it.
