Destiny: The Taken King review – Take me now, don’t be gentle

As we have not yet got an official review for Destiny this will count as both a review for Destiny and it’s DLC: The Taken King. Version played: PS4. Destiny is a game which has impressed me, I think that’s safe to say. Released during the Dark Days of 2014, the first full year following the release of the new generation of consoles. It was released during a time when games were being released to try and make use of all the improved hardware of the new generation and everything went badly wrong for everyone, we had the horror of always-online Titanfall (does anyone still play Titanfall incidentally?), we had video gaming’s mostly highly anticipated 7/10 Watch_Dogs and this isn’t even mentioning the shambles of exclusives for the consoles that year Sunset Overdrive (lulsorandum) and Knack (wow, has THAT got shitty reviews). It was during these days of strife and turmoil that Bungie, developers of Halo, said that they were making what was essentially an “FPSMMO” that looked, well, quite a lot like Halo. I will admit right now, I thought it would get reasonable reviews, people would reach max level and then everyone would be over it in a few months.

The MMGaming Awards – 2015

Can you feel the anticipation in the air? The excitement? That general tension and jostling for position and prestige which comes along with the Annual MMGaming Awards. Arguably the most prestigious award scheme in existence (because nobody else quite gets it right half the time). As before this post is liable to be a bit late but I personally have always thought it makes more sense to actually post it after the year is over, to give everyone a fair chance. Also, admittedly last year we did not provide an Awards post (and we received several angry letters from EA who thought they had it in the bag for Dragon Age: Inquisition) but this was actually primarily due to my own reluctance to write an awards post for a year in which I had played practically none of the big releases. At the time this was due to my lack of a machine which could play any of the newest games, however, now with a new gaming rig AND a PS4 I suddenly find myself in a position where I can once again start to know what I am talking about. So while 2014 was a bust, let us speak of it no further and immediately dive into the MMGaming Awards for 2015!

Kingdom’s of Amalur: Reckoning – radio silence much?

38 Studios in conjunction with Big Huge Games and EA today released Kingdom’s of Amalur: Reckoning in North America and it will be coming to stores in Europe on the 10th. If you haven’t heard anything about it it’s a massive fantasy RPG which looks to have gameplay similar to that of Dragon Age (in the position of the camera at least). Supposedly your character starts of as a “blank slate” and, like Fable you can level up whatever talents and skills you want. Also apparently the game is absolutely massive with well over 200 hours of gameplay. In fact supposedly there are 200 hours of gameplay in doing a speed run of the game, where you already know how to do everything and have done it before.
