Retrospectacles – A Little Look at Dune II

It’s a bit of an interesting week here at MMGaming as three of the four current writers just got Guild Wars 2 and we are all going to probably be sinking a fair amount of time into this over the next few days/weeks/months/forever. With that in mind we haven’t actually got an official review or anything for you today and so to make sure we do have a post up you can check out a video that Tim made a short while ago. In this particular short video Tim has a little look at Dune II a classic RTS from the developers Westwood Studios. The game is based on the famous movie Dune from David Lynch which in turn was based on a book of the same name written by Frank Herbert. That isn’t the only famous thing about the game that is famous though, in fact Dune II is often considered to be one of the first true RTSes. It created a formula from which pretty much all current strategy games have no deviated. More than that the developer went on to create other really massive RTS games like Command & Conquer Red Alert. While the game itself might be old and shows it’s age when Tim plays it, it’s definitely worth checking out the video because here we have real video gaming history in what was the game that started the long line of RTSes we have today. You should check it out after the jump!

Endweek News – Awesome Gameplay of Dishonored, Concept Art of Episode 3, some Halo 4 stuff, Meeting the Pyro and the release date of Guild Wars 2

Another week has passed, I hope that for you it was more productive than mine was. The biggest news that you can expect from me this week is that I completed Deus Ex: Human Revolution on Xbox and despite constantly saving and being more careful than a very careful thing I managed to set off a bloody alarm at SOME point during the game without noticing and thus missed out on an extra 100 achievement points for my gamer-score. Honestly, I think that has thrown me into a bad mood and I… Oh you’re here for some REAL news? I forgot that this Deus Ex stuff wasn’t important… So what is important eh? What important shiz has been happiziling?

Endweek News – Assassin’s Creed lawsuit not quite finished yet, What is this E3 thing?, a new Gears of War and some truly awesome videos!

It is that time of week where once again I delve into the grim and gritty business of video game news. It’s a cut-throat world out there, a game eat game world. A world in which only the fittest and most awesome games survive. And Call of Duty of course (OOoooh! ZING!). But seriously, it’s not really that bad (well not for everyone) and we’ve got some pretty interesting bits and pieces of news to regale you with today. Also I want to make it clear that the above video is indeed sort of relevant to this post as you shall find out later (if you read through this!) So, what’s new Gamers?

Bioshock Movie – On Hold Again

Bugger… Another hold up… Since it’s announcement in 2008 the film version of 2K Game’s Bioshock has been slowly dragging it’s way forward. It seems that every time an advance is made in the project it, just as quickly, reverts back into it’s state of non-existence.

Skyrim – The Siege of Markarth

In order to make up for the seriousness of the last post, after all we don’t like to be serious in the Gaming business, here is another epic Skyrim battle created by Tyrannicon for the Skyrim Machinima theatre. Named “The Siege of Markarth” the video is 8 minutes long and just as epic and awesome as the last one, definitely worth a look. Even if you aren’t into Skyrim…

Left 4 Dead Fan Film smacks us right in the Awesome

The film I mentioned a couple of weeks back came out a few days ago (it was posted on Youtube on the 16th of this month). And like a great many fan films these days it is absolutely awesome. I always think that live-action videos for games and fan stuff can sometimes just be so damn good and this video is no exception to either of those rules. Created by Airsoft GI and Northern Five Entertainment, it’s a genuinely awesome and cool video and I suggest you check it out after the jump! A word of warning, after I post the video I am actually going to give some thoughts on it… So you should be sure to watch the video before scrolling too far down to avoid any spoilers…

ODST – Feet first into hell!

Halo has always inspired a rather impressive level of devotion in it’s fans but this level of fan-made awesome simply takes the biscuit. A group of Halo fans have put together a TV series called Halo: Helljumper. Centred a single ODST, or Orbitial Drop Shock Trooper (aka: a Helljumper) soldier from his enlistment in the UNSC, fighting the Covenant to around the Fall of Reach, the show looks professional and completely awesome. The pilot episode will apparently be around 22 minutes and each subsequent episode will be closer to 12 minutes. You can check the trailer here after the jump.

Assassin’s Creed Movie

Assassin’s Creed Movie

Well as per usual it has been a slow weekend for news. And by that I mean… it’s the weekend and therefore… there is NO news. Even this news post is actually a few days old, in a way. You see the fact that Ubisoft is teaming up with Sony to make an Assassin’s Creed Movie is actually not all that new. In fact it’s been circulating the blogosphere for the past week and bit. I haven’t mentioned it yet largely due to my laziness and the fact that development of the film hasn’t even started yet. So while I eagerly await yet ANOTHER Assassin’s Creed related dose of awesome, this one will be a while off.
