The MMGaming Awards – 2016

2015 was a big year in video games. Several massive releases each of which several were genuinely incredible. Well, rather than sating us, we were only provided with a hunger, nay a NEED, for more… Unfortunately though it seems that the gaming industry’s recovery period is at least a year because 2016 was mostly, let’s face it, pretty disappointing. I guess it’s only fitting that the games of 2016 would be a bit subpar given how shitty everything else was this year. I mean seriously… This is legit a meme now… 2016 was ACTUALLY cursed? What the heck?

Stellaris review – *Imperial March plays distantly*

“May Terra guide you Admiral Wei, treat those Raltek’s to the indomitable might of a Human Imperial fleet!” my voice is clear over the interstellar radio, carrying all the way from Earth, the cradle of our civilisation, to the distant fleet of Terra’s Fury. Half a dozen cruisers, 20 destroyers and the same and a half again of corvettes, it is the greatest fleet we had been able to marshal to date. Moments ago, we sent a communique to the Raltek’s, a mammalian civilisation neighbouring ours in the Galaxy, declaring full-out war. Their borders had been pressed against ours for decades and recently our peaceful, if wary, understanding had descended into rivalry. The United Nations of Earth may be understanding and accepting of other alien races, but we have learned through centuries that in war sometimes it is better to strike first.

Cities in Motion 2 review – Also known as “Throwing Trams at the City Until it Works… 2”

Cities in Motion 2 is one of several Paradox Interactive releases from last year which slipped through the cracks at MMGaming. I have to admit to being intrigued by the title and looking it up, because I was hoping I would see a sort Predator Cities style game, with gigantic moving cities which eat each other. Or at least something with moving cities, because I have to admit that I used to be quite the fan of Predator Cities. Although… I disliked the way it ended, but I digress. However, the few bits of cover art and screenshots I saw all pictured trains and the like, and because I instantly assumed it was some form of Train Simulator, I decided to ignore it. Well look at all this egg that is currently residing on my face right now and I have to admit to be tucking into a slice of humble pie (only a slice of course, humility is fattening) in that having recently downloaded and spent some time playing Cities in Motion 2 that I actually really quite enjoy it!

A Game of Thrones in Crusader Kings 2 (Part 1) – A United Scotland

Crusader Kings 2 by Paradox Interactive is a game which has slowly been growing on me over recent months. Since I wrote the official MMGaming review of the game I have been picking it back up again every now and again and continuing a dynasty I started months ago. As I now am nearing the passing of the 200th in-game year I have had some cause to reflect on my dynasty and the success it has had, and I have come to the decision that it is a story I would like to share, because my noble house has indeed had great success. This is not a review or anything of the sort about CK2 but is simply a tale of how a noble house in Scotland has come to rule one of the most powerful nations in the entire world. It should be noted that most of this story is told from memory, so unfortunately there are no screenshots of most of my progress through the game. I also will be talking about my progress in a way that might not always make sense to someone who hasn’t played CK2, but for the most part I hope it will be easy to follow.

Crusader Kings 2 review – I’m afraid I can’t let you do that Your Majesty…

  Crusader Kings 2 by those lovely chaps at Paradox Interactive has been out for well over a year now and already has several packs of DLC available for purchase. It is a game in which you take control of a specific Dynasty in the Medieval World and you must get your heirs, your descendants to the top of the pecking order over a period of hundreds of years. You start of as a single character and upon their death you take control of your next direct heir. The game has no win function really but the idea is, as it is any real-time strategy game, to rule the world and become Emperor of everything. The way you lose is, unlike any other RTS, not based on whether your Empire and the people you rule are still around but is instead based on whether your Dynasty survives. And if all of your descendants die out or fall out of power then it is game over and you get to see how much impact you had on the ancient world rated alongside other notable figures.

Impire review – That’s the evillest thing I could come up with given 10 minutes notice

   Impire by Paradox Productions and Cyanide Montreal is a relatively new RTS game in which you play the part of one Baal Abaddon (or however it’s spelt), an evil and powerful demon summoned into the mortal realm on a mission of world domination. It has a feel reminiscent of the old Overlord games in which you play as the forces of darkness in a comedic world where you go around killing all the good guys and feeding them to your minions.

Video Mondaily – A first impressions of Impire

Hey look! We’re still not dead! Somehow… Anyway this Monday’s video comes at us courtesy of Paradox Interactive and Cyanide Montreal. The game I am playing here is their recently released strategy Impire and giving both me and you guys a first impressions look at it. Having never played the game before I had no idea what to expect going in except that it was an RTS and you play as an evil imp (hence the name). I write this news post in the early hours of the morning as it was meant to be up yesterday. I do promise that I will try and be more punctual about these but the end of lectures and classes at University have put me in a holiday/lazy mood. Which when combined with my inherent laziness is difficult to overcome. However, let’s crack on and do the news from the last couple of days. What is going on in the gaming world?

Paradox reveal three new games

Our lovely friends at Paradox have unveiled a trio of games which they will be sending our way all of them remarkably different and interesting. The reason for the sudden revealing of three games all at once is due to the GDC (Games Developer’s Conference) where gaming news and reveals abound.

A period of silence

Hey folks just a bit of news about me personally (Seb) which will affect MMGaming just a little in the next couple of weeks. As you are possibly aware, if you keep up to date with us and any other gaming news sites, earlier this week (on the 14th to be precise) Crusader Kings 2 was released by Paradox Interactive. As well as that the week before (on the 10th) Europe saw the release of Kingdom’s of Amalur: Reckoning by 38 Studios and Big Huge Games.
