Battlerite Early Access Impressions – Oh please no, take anything you want.. anything… just not my soul!

Here we are again. It’s like my gaming life has come full circle. Things started off  in 2009 when I was invited in to the League of Legends alpha. At the time LoL was pretty unknown, but since it was free I managed to convince a few of my friends to play. As the years went by we played more, and more, and more, and more. And suddenly its 2014, ALL of my friends played LoL and very regularly and we had done so for the best part of 5 years. LoL had the perfect mix of strategy, intuition, skill and grind that ticked all the boxes for an enjoyable evening of gaming. The biggest draw for me, towards the end was playing with all my friends. I grew tired of the toxic community and as such started only playing with my friends, and that gradually decreased my playing time until I stopped completely. Then came along Battlerite.

Early Access Evolution: Folk Tale

We at MMGaming love early access games. It gives us a good taste of what fun feature complete games to expect in the future and the added bonus of (hopefully) being fun while still in early access. So what happens to all those games that we tried out in early access years ago? The ones that may have been popular for a time on their early access release but have gone under the radar since then? Let’s see where some of these games are now… Starting with Folk Tale!

Retrospectacles – A Little Look at Dune II

It’s a bit of an interesting week here at MMGaming as three of the four current writers just got Guild Wars 2 and we are all going to probably be sinking a fair amount of time into this over the next few days/weeks/months/forever. With that in mind we haven’t actually got an official review or anything for you today and so to make sure we do have a post up you can check out a video that Tim made a short while ago. In this particular short video Tim has a little look at Dune II a classic RTS from the developers Westwood Studios. The game is based on the famous movie Dune from David Lynch which in turn was based on a book of the same name written by Frank Herbert. That isn’t the only famous thing about the game that is famous though, in fact Dune II is often considered to be one of the first true RTSes. It created a formula from which pretty much all current strategy games have no deviated. More than that the developer went on to create other really massive RTS games like Command & Conquer Red Alert. While the game itself might be old and shows it’s age when Tim plays it, it’s definitely worth checking out the video because here we have real video gaming history in what was the game that started the long line of RTSes we have today. You should check it out after the jump!

War of Human Tanks – Preview

Fear not readers of MMGaming! Seb and Tim are back and we are ready to once again jump right back into our duties, and we promise they’ll be just as slow and haphazard as always… That’s just our style! Anyway this Friday’s review comes in the form of a Preview video Tim recorded a couple of weeks ago. War of Human Tanks is an anime style strategy game of a similar style to the famous Advance Wars for Gameboy, with the odd twist of a gameplay mechanic which is a combination of both real-time and turn-based strategy. In the game you take control of a number of, well as the name suggests, human tanks on a board covered in fog of war. The above interesting gameplay mechanic Tim shows and discusses and in the video you also get to see a fair bit of gameplay. You can check it out and read a little more after the jump.

Endweek News – Release Date City, Colour Me Intrigued and Videos

Release Date City Just one release date for you this week. Developers Ronimo Games have announced that sometime in the next month the successful MOBA, fresh from XBLA and PSN, Awesomenauts will be getting a PC release version on Steam. There is not definite release date yet, but saying “this month” is close enough in my estimation. Also for those of you who own a Mac there is actually a Mac version in progress as well, so you’ll actually be able to try this one!

Dear Esther: Maybe.

I’m sitting as a write this, with a miller genuine draft in my hand. This fact may directly influence the content of this review and for that I apologize. Yet I bloody deserve this beer! My long hard nights in the library have kept the exams at bay. I have reemerged from my studying induced coma thinking… Did I like Dear Esther?

A period of silence

Hey folks just a bit of news about me personally (Seb) which will affect MMGaming just a little in the next couple of weeks. As you are possibly aware, if you keep up to date with us and any other gaming news sites, earlier this week (on the 14th to be precise) Crusader Kings 2 was released by Paradox Interactive. As well as that the week before (on the 10th) Europe saw the release of Kingdom’s of Amalur: Reckoning by 38 Studios and Big Huge Games.

Dragon’s Dogma Story Trailer

Capcom have announced a release date for their upcoming fantasy RPG Dragon’s Dogma. Which looks an awful lot like Dragon Age and has a similar name to boot! Yeah, I don’t really know much about it. I can only tell you right now that it’s due out on May 22nd in North America and a few days later on the 25th in Europe. In fairness I’m not the only one who doesn’t know much about this game, in fact I only heard of it briefly when it was announced and now I’ve seen it’s relatively cool trailer which you can see after the jump.
