King’s Bounty: Dark Side review – If only you knew the lack of power of the Dark Side

Review written by Lamios. The King’s Bounty series is the very definition of niche, and it most surely isn’t for everyone. While the combat is generally enjoyable and moderately challenging, the particular flavour or humour is often grating and just as often inconsistent in tone. Furthermore, if Blizzard games are known to be polished if nothing else, King’s Bounty is about as polished as your standard elementary school English essay – and, occasionally, it has that level of grammar too. Nevertheless, there is a game to be enjoyed in King’s Bounty: Dark Side. It’s just that it’s hidden under so many little annoyances that you need to be in a very particular mindset in order to experience it.

Lords of the Black Sun review – Civilisation in SPAAAAAACE!

Frankly it’s about time that someone made a strategy game in space, one where you can control vast fleets of starships and conquer a vast array of systems and planets. A game where you can fight an array of alien species whilst researching the next scientific innovation which will allow you to improve your terraforming of planets or improve your current colonies or nuke somebody else’s planets. Unfortunately, while Lords of the Black Sun by  Arkavi Studios does indeed contain all of these things, it doesn’t really do it in the way I see it in my mind. It’s a game which, I think, had noble intentions but then, rather unfortunately, failed to deliver on pretty much all of them.

The Neptune’s Pride Diary of His Royal Highness, Emperor of the Ileryu (a.k.a. Sabor117) – Parts 4 to 8

Click here for Parts 1 to 3 and for Elephant_God’s account of the early game His Royal Highness, Emperor of the Ileryu – Journal Entry 4 21/01/20012 Log Starts – What are they doing? I simply do NOT understand it. The Green has built up an army capable of smashing my Empire into pieces and assembled it right on my border. And then they stopped doing anything. The Reds are pushing into the Yellow Empire slowly but inexorably, as he and I did with the Teal. Speaking of Teal, I ought to say how that is going. Teal marshalled his last fleet on one of his last four planets. The only one within reach to me and Yellow. I had recalled all my strongest fleets to my border with Green and so only had one weak one. Yellow had a stronger one but it possibly wouldn’t have been able to win the fight as Teal had a reasonable amount of ships in his fleet.

His Royal Highness, Emperor of the Ileryu – Journal Entry 1 Stardate 9/1/20012 Log starts – Our great Empire has come to the sudden realisation that we are not alone in this Galaxy of ours. In fact we share it with another seven space-faring civilisations all in a similar position as us. Meaning they are just starting to expand the borders of their domain. We are in an interesting position which could be considered either strong or weak depending on how you view it. We are at the edges of the Galaxy and as such are not so unfortunate as some in that we are not surrounded by the other civilisations. That said we are within reasonable distance of two space-faring civilisations and only a little further away from a third.

Warlock: Master of the Arcane Preview

Paradox Interactive (God bless them) have sent us a preview code for Warlock: Master of the Arcane, a turn-based fantasy game set in the Majesty universe. That is a beautiful combination if I ever saw one. So! I delved in to bring you some news on how the game is progressing and I can tell you I am pleased.
