Why Wildstar?

If you’ve read the start of my recent Retrospectacle on World of Warcraft then you might understand that both Tim and I were big time fans of Blizzard’s MMO. We loved that game and everything about it and both of us, at one point or another, reached the end-game raiding content (even getting quite far at times). Both of us also quit for similar reasons, and none of those reasons were that we were fed up of the game. The simple fact was that it devoured our life, free time and money (money which we could not spare at Uni) and so we quit (him a good two years before me).

World of Warcraft: Cataclysm retrospectacle – The world heaves with my torment…

Hey everyone, my name is Sabor117, and I’m a WoW addict. You know, I was recently introduced to the very well written TV show The West Wing in which a character talks about alcoholism as being where a normal person would have one drink, an alcoholic has ten. They essentially just can’t stop themselves, or at leas that’s what I took away. I got off World of Warcraft four years ago, it was just after I finished school and I found that I just couldn’t quite afford it any longer (both time and money wise). So, I quit, cold turkey. I got my main character to 85 in Cataclysm and then left and never looked back.

Endweek News – Assassin’s Creed lawsuit not quite finished yet, What is this E3 thing?, a new Gears of War and some truly awesome videos!

It is that time of week where once again I delve into the grim and gritty business of video game news. It’s a cut-throat world out there, a game eat game world. A world in which only the fittest and most awesome games survive. And Call of Duty of course (OOoooh! ZING!). But seriously, it’s not really that bad (well not for everyone) and we’ve got some pretty interesting bits and pieces of news to regale you with today. Also I want to make it clear that the above video is indeed sort of relevant to this post as you shall find out later (if you read through this!) So, what’s new Gamers?

Blizzard Rewards Returning Players! A LOT!!

If you have ever played World of Warcraft and then quit and considered starting up again you might well be aware that Blizzard has always tried to reward those who return to World of Warcraft with their “Scroll of Resurrection” which gave bonuses to someone who invited a retired friend back into the game and to the returning player himself (of course this did require you to have someone “re-invite” you to WoW). Now though the Scroll has been vastly improved from what it was in an attempt to win back players who have quit WoW as an awful lot of them have been recently.

World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria New Talents

You might well be aware that Blizzard have already announced the next stage for World of Warcraft. A far away and mystical land known as Pandaria. With the traditional plethora of new features and updates has come something which has surprised an awful lot of people and caused a fair amount of uproar in the World of Warcraft community. Blizzard have decided to scrap their traditional Talent Tree system that they have been using for all of the seven years WoW has been active in favour of a new system. I have decided to tell you a little bit about it and give you my pennies worth.

World of Warcraft 4.3 Hits Us

Despite popular belief, yes people still play World of Warcraft. And despite Tim’s belief I still believe the game to be not only worth following but worth playing. And trust me, if I had enough money and a lot more free time then I WOULD be playing it. I mean of course due to my maturity I would take breaks in order to play stuff like SWTOR but I do think that I would eventually return to WoW (although SWTOR was damn good…) because it’s evil regime has worked and it’s succeeded in programming me to be just another one of it’s mindless drones.

Riot Games – We’rea’ beat yo ass!

According to Riot Games, the unstoppable giant that is League of Legends has reached 11.5 MILLION active players world-wide with 1.3 MILLION players battling it out with each other during peak times. Holy hell… That is a fucking LOT of people Tim has to put up with every time he plays.

World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria

One of the things that always bothered me a little about World of Warcraft was how quickly new stuff seemed to come out. After any patch or expansion came out you would only just be getting into the swing of things when suddenly the next stage was announced and then tested and then released. Case in point. During my time playing through the cold wastes of Northrend I managed to raid occasionally, but went through guild after guild as one by one they split up, stopped raiding or just stopped playing. So when I finally manage to get a good guild I thought I might finally be able to get to the end-game content. And then Blizzard announces Cataclysm and so I suddenly have a time limit on killing the Lich King before it will become obsolete. Still managed though… SPARTANS!!!

All will burn beneath the Shadow of my Wings!

So the time is nigh. World of Warcraft Patch 4.3 is due for release into the Public Test Realm within the next few weeks. 4.3 will see the “end” of the Cataclysm expansion as players will be finally pitted against the leader of the Black Dragonflight: Deathwing the Destroyer. Along with what sounds like a boss fight of truly epic proportions there will be the usual plethora of new stuff typical for a large World of Warcraft content patch.
