Diary of a Civilization (VI) – Part 1

Welcome disciples to my Civilization 6 diary where I intend on playing through one full campaign. I am playing on the “Emperor” difficult as our one and only Gandhi. Let us begin.

Battlefleet Gothic: Armada review – You make me mada… but in a good way.

Battlefleet Gothic: Armada is the newest game capatlising on the long running franchise of Warhammer 40k. Warhammer titles have always been a hit and miss afair, luckily Battlefleet Gothic is a critical hit with all broadside macro-cannons although it’s not without its’ flaws. I have always been mildly interested in the Warhammer 40k universe but my interest has never reached beyond that. Dawn of war and Dawn of war 2 were great games but that was in spite of it’s Warhammer 40k theme, not because of it. I’m told that Battlefleet is very true to the lore but frankly I couldn’t care less and for a very simple reason. Space ships shooting the shit out of each other is cool. It is very, very cool.

Video Mondaily – Tim and Seb Play Rome 2

MMGaming Streams Rome II

Video Mondaily

As will hopefully become more and more clear over the coming year, I have a new computer, and this has sort of breathed a new lease of life into MMGaming. We are making plans, making videos, starting to stream with increasing regularity (both on Twitch and on Youtube) and, most importantly we are playing more games.

Well, that latter may not be true for Tim, but it is certainly true for me! As I now have a computer which can actually run games properly I am determined to make the most of it and one of the things which I was quick to jump into was Rome 2, a game I was gifted on release but which could not run on my old laptop. Well, fear not folks, because after a long wait I have finally started my campaign, and have also started a multiplayer one with Tim as well! Check after the jump!

Lords of the Black Sun review – Civilisation in SPAAAAAACE!

Lords of the Black Sun artwork Frankly it’s about time that someone made a strategy game in space, one where you can control vast fleets of starships and conquer a vast array of systems and planets. A game where you can fight an array of alien species whilst researching the next scientific innovation which will allow you to improve your terraforming of planets or improve your current colonies or nuke somebody else’s planets. Unfortunately, while Lords of the Black Sun by  Arkavi Studios does indeed contain all of these things, it doesn’t really do it in the way I see it in my mind. It’s a game which, I think, had noble intentions but then, rather unfortunately, failed to deliver on pretty much all of them.

The Banner Saga: Factions – Impressions

The Banner Saga is described as a role-playing, turn based strategy created by Stoic Games. The single player game is actually still in the process of being developed by the team at Stoic and utilising Kickstarter as a means of obtaining funds. As a basic description of the gameplay it appears to be an interesting and relatively unique style of RTS in which you choose a team of Viking-esque soldiers and then utilise your team on a grid-battlefield, moving a unit per turn switching between both sides.

Currently, as I say, the singleplayer has not been released. However, the free-to-play online multiplayer portion of the game: Factions has recently been released and is available for download from both Steam and the game’s official website. Tim has now taken the opportunity to give us a look at the gameplay and style of The Banner Saga in an impressions video which you can find after the jump. With a rather nice graphics style and a pretty cool gameplay mechanic (not to mention it’s free) The Banner Saga: Factions is certainly worth looking at in our video!

His Royal Highness, Emperor of the Ileryu – Journal Entry 4

21/01/20012

Log Starts – What are they doing? I simply do NOT understand it. The Green has built up an army capable of smashing my Empire into pieces and assembled it right on my border. And then they stopped doing anything.

The Reds are pushing into the Yellow Empire slowly but inexorably, as he and I did with the Teal. Speaking of Teal, I ought to say how that is going.

Teal marshalled his last fleet on one of his last four planets. The only one within reach to me and Yellow. I had recalled all my strongest fleets to my border with Green and so only had one weak one. Yellow had a stronger one but it possibly wouldn’t have been able to win the fight as Teal had a reasonable amount of ships in his fleet. Continue reading

His Royal Highness, Emperor of the Ileryu – Journal Entry 1

Stardate 9/1/20012

Log starts – Our great Empire has come to the sudden realisation that we are not alone in this Galaxy of ours. In fact we share it with another seven space-faring civilisations all in a similar position as us. Meaning they are just starting to expand the borders of their domain.

We are in an interesting position which could be considered either strong or weak depending on how you view it. We are at the edges of the Galaxy and as such are not so unfortunate as some in that we are not surrounded by the other civilisations. That said we are within reasonable distance of two space-faring civilisations and only a little further away from a third. Continue reading
