Retrospectacles: Assassin’s Creed 3 – Everybody makes mistakes

Assassin's Creed 3 awesome wallpaper

Assassin’s Creed is a series that has always and will always hold a special place in my heart. It’s hard for me to say what exactly it is about the series that so hooked me way back when I was jumping about as Altair, but it’s irrelevant because it happened. Since AC2 I have counted Assassin’s Creed as my second favourite video game series of all time (behind an obvious front-runner), beating out even my love of Halo and the games made by Telltale Games. Assassin’s Creed 3 review – The Brits Bite Back!

I had to mentally prepare myself before playing Assassin’s Creed 3. Partially because this is the latest instalment in one of my favourite series of video games (and I am such a fan-boy for it it’s not even funny) but also because I had to gear myself up for playing through a game where all the enemies are British, it just doesn’t sit well for some reason. Seriously, I would really like a game in which we go around actually killing Americans for once, I figure that something quite so unique would be bound to turn a few heads.

Anyway, witticisms aside I do feel I ought to say that, minus the fact that I was always very aware that every single redcoat I killed was a fellow tea-drinker, the game honestly doesn’t do quite as much English bashing as I was expecting. Only about as much as is necessary to remind you that this was a period and place where the English weren’t very popular (much like Glasgow during the world-cup actually). In fact if, like me, you felt the need to read anything in the database that is written in game by the veeeery English, and veeeery cynical, Shuan Hastings (voiced by Danny Wallace) you will quickly see that the developers had more than a few digs at both America and the American Revolution itself (pity about 99% of gamers probably won’t read them, but I digress).

Endweek News – A writer sues Ubisoft, Halo 4 get’s a release date, Trailers for God of War and 0x10c are everywhere and Arkham City content get’s teased

Once again (due to the excuses I lined out last week) I again failed to post any Midweek News this past week. As well as that, this session of Endweek News was hastily researched and thrown together, you’ll just have to forgive me for these things as I have been rather busy. That said most of the news from this past week is actually trailers and other videos, so less reading for you guys. I will say no more on it but jump straight into the news!

Assassin’s Creed Revelations Review

I was very lucky in that at Christmas this year I got exactly what I wanted and one of those things was Assassin’s Creed Revelations (or as I like to call it Assassin’s Creed 2.2). Carrying on from Brotherhood, Desmond is now stuck in the animus and in order to leave he has to seperate his conciousness from Altair’s and Ezio’s, and he does this by reliving some of Ezio’s life. This is the final Assassin’s Creed featuring Ezio Auditore as the main character in which he travels to Masyaf, from the original Assassin’s Creed (still not sure if there should be that apostrophe there or not), searching for library of Altair. Why he’s searching for it isn’t really explained other than the fact that it contains lots of delicious wisdom.

Anyway, while in Masyaf he is attacked by Templars (led by evil-bald-guy-with-a-cape) and the cinematic trailer takes place. The game itself starts right after the cinematic trailer finishes and Ezio then kills a bunch of bad-guys with his awesome and discovers that he needs 5 keys to open the door to Altair’s library. So off he heads to Constantinople (today called Istanbul) in search of the five keys and while there he has to liberate the city from the Templars and pretty much the rest of the Mediterranean via his apprentices.

SOPA: Right, fuck this! Let’s Riot!

Picture semi-related…

Okay so this might instantly strike you as not a very serious post but I absolutely urge you to take a minute to read this and to take this seriously because we might well be seeing that start of something truly horrific. The destruction of free speech and free will that the internet allows… Now this is first and foremost a gaming website but I (alongside other gamers out there actually) have to say that this is definitely worth making a post about and as such definitely worth a look.

Now I will do my best to explain SOPA but, for reasons I will mention in the next paragraph, I am definitely not the most advised person on this subject. I suggest you skip to the bottom of the post and check out the videos I post there or that you go here: http://americancensorship.org/ What I am doing right now is simply trying to make anyone reading this more aware of what’s going on (everyone should be told) and you should do the same! Watch the videos and then tell everyone you can to check out the site I just linked!
