MMGaming Top 50 Games – 40 to 31

Inspired by the PC Gamer Top 100 games list here is the continuation of own list of the Best Video Games Ever. MMGaming’s official Top 50 Games.

Just a quick reminder of the rules and requirements for a game to make it into the MMG Top 50: first of all, the games in our Top 50 will naturally only include those games which one of us (me or Tim) have played. They will also include games from literally any platform we’ve had access to across the ages.

In order to belong on the list the game had to more-or-less fit two separate criteria: the games would have to be something which blew us away at the time of playing it, such that it still provokes an emotional response now, but also a game which we think is still very worth playing today. As such, some games which we are trying to provide a list of games which were both brilliant at the time but also have not aged like hot garbage and so their excellence can only be explained through the lens of nostalgia. MMGaming Top 50 Games – 50 – 41

Everybody likes lists which break down extremely complex questions and information into easily digestible and arbitrary chunks. And we’ve sort of been inspired by the PC Gamer Top 100 games list to make our own list of the Best Video Games Ever. Continue reading

The MMGaming Awards – 2015

Can you feel the anticipation in the air? The excitement? That general tension and jostling for position and prestige which comes along with the Annual MMGaming Awards. Arguably the most prestigious award scheme in existence (because nobody else quite gets it right half the time). As before this post is liable to be a bit late but I personally have always thought it makes more sense to actually post it after the year is over, to give everyone a fair chance. Also, admittedly last year we did not provide an Awards post (and we received several angry letters from EA who thought they had it in the bag for Dragon Age: Inquisition) but this was actually primarily due to my own reluctance to write an awards post for a year in which I had played practically none of the big releases. At the time this was due to my lack of a machine which could play any of the newest games, however, now with a new gaming rig AND a PS4 I suddenly find myself in a position where I can once again start to know what I am talking about.

So while 2014 was a bust, let us speak of it no further and immediately dive into the MMGaming Awards for 2015!

The MMGaming Awards – 2013

Other life epic

This is a post which usually comes around the first week of January, however I personally decided to postpone it for a little longer because there was one game which I had yet to play but knew I would be playing relatively soon. It took a bit longer than expected to finally get around to playing said game, but it was worth it because it does factor rather massively into the running of this year’s MMGaming Game Awards. As always, people are now raising eyes and faces to the sky, hearts in mouths and stomachs where the heart used to be, ready to hear what are surely the most prestigious and most awaited awards every year. Despite the late arrival of the MMGaming Game Awards, everyone from the smallest to the biggest of devs knows that it is big and important and they were all willing to wait as long as necessary with the hopes of winning one of the awards. Anyway, it is now time to get down to business and (defeat the hun) give our opinions on some of the best and brightest of the good year 2013. Let’s get to it!

Overhaul

Hey folks!

You may be wondering why things have been slowing down of late in regards to reviews/news and other shenanigans and I just want to inform ya’ll to our plans. While we have been receiving steady viewership (thanks guys!) we are looking to overhaul the site into something more consistent and high quality. With that in mind there is going to be a lot of changes coming in over the next couple of weeks and as a result posts will be sparse. Yet have no fear! Things are on the up and we hope it will stay that way. Keep an eye on us and you won’t be disappointed!

Regards,

The MMGaming Team

EDIT: We are also considering changing to a Joomla layout (from the current WordPress layout) which might result in some downtime while we mess around to get it working. If the site isn’t up for any reason just assume that we are working on it and come back in a couple of hours!

Mods and Money Part 1: Stefan Gagne

DLC is becoming more and more widespread in the gaming industry these days.  It serves as a way of keeping valuable staff busy and employed by giving them smaller projects to work on between major releases.  It lets development teams add in content they had to cut from the original release.  It gives gamers new ways to enjoy their favorite games.  That would all be moot if they didn’t also generate quite a bit of money.  It seems like only a matter of time before a company takes the next logical step and starts partnering with its modding community to sell User Generated Content for a profit.  If and how they should is a topic that generates a lot of strong opinions from fans of the modding community.
