Sword of the Stars 2: Release Fail

October 29, 2011 Leave a comment

So last night was the launch of Sword of the Stars 2: Lords of Winter but in all the excitement I seemed to forget that Steam is a lazy, buggy, money grabbing heap of bollocks. Ok that’s not really fair, I mean it is, but on this particular occasion it is probably more the fault of developers at Kerboros or more likely a rushed release by Paradox Interactive. Honestly folks, I’m as information starved as everyone else so it’s hard to point fingers.

“But why all the hostility CrossCrash?” I hear you ask, and let me tell you.

Sword of the Stars: Looking Back, Moving Forward

In celebration of the release of Sword of the Stars II: Lords of Winter and our Epic SotS competition I’m going to give you a quick run-down of what made the first game the incredible, addictive and down right hard-as-nails work of gaming art it was.

I’m a big fan of the series so I was asked have a look at back what made this game so great. Was also told to keep it short.

Stronghold 3 Release Gets the French Treatment

October 25, 2011 Leave a comment

Well today’s the day castle nerds like me have been waiting for. The long awaited release of Firefly Studio’s Stronghold 3.

But those who bought the game after the pre-load were in for a choc plutôt désagréables when they found that the game had only been supplied with French and German language options; with French being the default setting.

Achron: Full of Wibbly-Wobbly, Timey-Wimey Stuff

Ok, let me get one thing clear off the bat. I am well aware that some people will skip straight to the bottom to get the “short version” and just read the rating but I am going to assume that if you have read this far, you are going to read the rest of the review! The other thing I want to say is that I liked Achron, but in what is fast becoming my fashion I will likely spend a large amount of time in this review poking holes in it. Don’t be discouraged though! For I have broken my spree of “games I didn’t really like” in Achron because I DID like it. Read more…

League of Legends Review

September 7, 2011 2 comments

League of Legends is a free online multi-player RTS (real-time strategy). Player are formed into two teams, either a 3v3 or 5v5 depending on the map. You control 1 of (currently as of August 2011) 81 champions and each champion is different in their own way. Different spells, different attributes, different strengths, each champion can contribute to the team in their own way. This makes the variations of a team numerous and will ensure you will encounter something new every game as no two players are ever the same. All champions level up throughout each game, starting at 1 (obviously) and maxing to 18, at every level you can improve a spell making it stronger and more effective. To gain experience to level up you have to go about killing minions and champions. Games can last from 20min to an average of 45min. Since this is online there are patches coming out all the time updating the game; bringing new characters, items and soon a new map and game type. As stated before you are in teams of 3 or 5 and teamwork is essential if you want to win, and should you ever have to fight missing a person it gets even more… challenging. Read more…

A Game of Thrones: The Game

September 7, 2011 3 comments

So… A Game of Thrones: Genesis… An RTS set in the Game of Thrones world (before the events of the first book). Colour me interested. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, The Song of Ice and Fire series by George R. R. Martin are among the best books I have ever read and so I find pretty much most things to do with it cool and interesting. I’m still gutted I haven’t seen the TV series yet. Read more…
