Do you know what Tim said to me when he and I first had seen the cinematic trailer for Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag? We were speaking on an IM at the time and he straight-up said “This looks like the first Assassin’s Creed I’m interested in since the first one, it looks properly legit”. “Legit”, being pretty big praise from the likes of him and me. Tim doesn’t often get quite so sucked into game series as I do and so retains a moderately unbiased view when it comes to these things, so after the apparent disappointment which was Assassin’s Creed 3, this was a very interesting thing to hear from him. Assassin’s Creed is a series that has always and will always hold a special place in my heart. It’s hard for me to say what exactly it is about the series that so hooked me way back when I was jumping about as Altair, but it’s irrelevant because it happened. Since AC2 I have counted Assassin’s Creed as my second favourite video game series of all time (behind an obvious front-runner), beating out even my love of Halo and the games made by Telltale Games. Hey everyone! THIS IS NOT THE ENDWEEK NEWS! In fact I probably shouldn’t even post this… This was a news post I started work on for the last week in February. It was going to contain an apology for not keeping up with the news, despite my promises to myself and to you guys that I would. Even with the new “Seb’s Top 5” system I haven’t been bothering to write a news article at all. This is something I need to deal with and I am currently looking into the possibility of turning it into a weekly video instead, to try and MAKE myself do it.
ANYWAY. The reason I am actually posting this is because I had all of what is below here written and sorted for about two months and it just didn’t seem quite right to simply delete and throw it all away. However, it IS now two months old and so doesn’t really count as news any more. I just didn’t want what I have to go to waste and so I am posting it anyway. Hopefully it’s still entertaining enough that it might make for a good read.
Welcome folks, welcome to the Endweek News! This is your weekly segment of SOME things gaming. I say “some” things because, frankly, I have neither the time nor the botheredness to actually post everything of gaming related interest every week and so I will be trimming off the fat and the sliiiightly less interesting stories in favour of the Top Five stories of the week! Welcome to the Endweek News – Seb’s Top Five!
So I was ill over the weekend and am only just now putting the finishing touches on this and posting it… Trust me when I say other than a few little things this was ready to be posted on Sunday. Apologies for the poor start. Continue reading
I had to mentally prepare myself before playing Assassin’s Creed 3. Partially because this is the latest instalment in one of my favourite series of video games (and I am such a fan-boy for it it’s not even funny) but also because I had to gear myself up for playing through a game where all the enemies are British, it just doesn’t sit well for some reason. Seriously, I would really like a game in which we go around actually killing Americans for once, I figure that something quite so unique would be bound to turn a few heads.
Anyway, witticisms aside I do feel I ought to say that, minus the fact that I was always very aware that every single redcoat I killed was a fellow tea-drinker, the game honestly doesn’t do quite as much English bashing as I was expecting. Only about as much as is necessary to remind you that this was a period and place where the English weren’t very popular (much like Glasgow during the world-cup actually). In fact if, like me, you felt the need to read anything in the database that is written in game by the veeeery English, and veeeery cynical, Shuan Hastings (voiced by Danny Wallace) you will quickly see that the developers had more than a few digs at both America and the American Revolution itself (pity about 99% of gamers probably won’t read them, but I digress).
I have no excuses of any real merit as to why I have not posted any News for the last two months and a half. Minus a week that I spent on Holiday without internet and the few days it took to move into my new student flat I really could have been posting Endweek News without any real issues.
Seeing as it has actually been over a month since I last posted any form of News the prospect of posting EVERY piece of interesting News during that time makes me go pale with terror. I’ve posted long News posts before BUT I would very much rather avoid having to write out 10,000 words which, let’s be honest here, few people would ever struggle through (no matter how interesting the content). Instead, I did have a few tidbits I had collected with the intention of posting (but never got round to it) from in between our last post (on the 6th) and the present.
Hopefully the interest level here will make up for the fact that most of them come really rather late…
It’s that time of week again folks when we huddle around the glow of our computer monitors, soaking up the warm and delicious electronic goodness. It could be raining or sunny outside, it could be the middle of the night or the middle of the day but we neither know nor care because we have video games news to distract ourselves with. And it’s a rather large batch of it as well! We’ve got some beta sign ups for you to explore, some updates, some new games and some lawsuits. As usual in the gaming world it’s always awesome and always worth paying attention to.
Or at least the stuff I’m about to show you is… Also, in previous Endweek Newses I have been giving you the news in a bit of a haphazard order with no real structure to it. From hence forth the oldest stories will be at the top of the post with the most recent at the bottom. Also, remember to check out the separate news post where I talk about intriguing new games, release dates and shove a bunch of awesome videos in your face. Enjoy!
