Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons review – Review: Some Writing on a Blog

Brothers A Tale of Two Sons wallpaper logoBrothers: A Tale of Two Sons (or, more simply: “Brothers”), developed by Starbreeze Studios, is a big name now and in fact it has been since release. It has been widely praised by fans and critics and actually won Best Xbox Game at this year’s Spike’s video game awards (because I can’t stand calling it “VGX”), beating heavy hitters like Bioshock Infinite and GTA:V. Most especially it has received praise for it’s writing, it’s looks and overall feel. I’m a bit behind the times in that I’ve only managed to play through it now over Christmas.

In Brothers you play as both of a pair of brothers simultaneously, making it a surprisingly unique game in which you essentially  have to co-operate with yourself in order to solve a series of uncomplicated puzzles. Designed specifically for XBLA the left analogue stick and left trigger control older Bieber-esque brother while the right analogue stick and trigger control the younger, blonde mop-top brother. Each brother also has unique “gameplay” abilities, with Bieber-hair being stronger (ironically) and Beatles-hair being smaller and nimbler.  With both of these protagonists at your fingertips it is up to you to go on a grand scope fantasy adventure to find some special plant which will save your seriously ill father. This is done across a vast fantasy world in which the two brothers have to interact with the environment and work with each other in order to progress. Continue reading

Kingdom’s of Amalur: Reckoning Review-pressions

I think that before I go into any great detail about Kingdom’s of Amalur: Reckoning  I should explain that this is an awkward mixture of both a review and an impressions. You see I have experienced the majority of gameplay that KoA has to offer, but where it apparently scores a lot of points is in it’s story and unfortunately I’m only about 5 hours into the main story (there are A LOT of side quests). Thus while this will function as our official MMGaming review of KoA it also will be open for change should the story impress me enough to change it.

Okay now that’s out of the way I can say another thing. I’ve been thinking of and planning this article since I was about 6 hours in at level 7. I’m now around 16 hours in and level 15. However in that space of time my opinions of the game have changed rather dramatically. I put this down to the whole “no pain no gain” clause that is inherent with large singleplayer RPGs. You have to spend a fair bit of time getting into your character and the story and the game world before you actually properly start to enjoy yourself. And it took a little bit longer than expected in KoA. However I persevered and now I’m pleased to say I AM into it!

The Battle for Skyrim

I thought I’d kick-start today with even more awesome from Skyrim! Using a whole handful of mods an ambitious Youtuber Tyrannicon put together a line up of 500 Draugr, 200 skeletons, 500 Dwarven Warriors, and a dragon plus some heroes and some wraiths all set to absolutely fuck each other up.

It quickly escalates from awesome to full blown legendary and you can check out the video after the jump. Expect magic and explosions and awesome filling your hearts and souls for the rest of the day.

MMGaming’s War on the Wall of Flesh!

A while ago I joined Tim in a game of Terraria on his world. Tim was actually a reasonable way into game and knows a hell of a lot about the game. Whereas I was a noob who had played about 15 minutes of the awesome game in total.

Tim, despite being a boss, was however in need of a bit of help taking down an absolutely massive and difficult boss in the game called The Wall of Flesh. The Wall, once summoned covers the whole up and down distance of the map and you have to constantly move away from it while slowly whittling down it’s massive health store.

Skyrim Review

This review is quite simply born of necessity. Both me and Tim have played Skyrim and it won our 2011 Game of the Year Award. Really though it’s hard to write something about the game that hasn’t been said already. Because it’s just so damned easy to rave and drool over Skyrim. Hell, if you need to read this to make your decision, allow me to prevent you from having to bother to scroll the read the rating at the bottom. Skyrim is quite simply the best game I have ever played.
