It is perhaps a little unfair that pretty much every single review I’ve seen of Arkane Studio’s Prey 2017 (because why would they want to give it its own name when there was a perfectly fine older IP to reboot) immediately begins by comparing it to other games. One could be forgiven for thinking therefore that it is a hodgepodge of elements from other games, melted down into a single product. It’s touted as yet ANOTHER spiritual successor to System Shock 2 as well as to Bioshock whilst also drawing on elements from Dishonored and Half Life. Continue reading
I remember being very iffy when I heard the announcement for the latest iteration in the Wolfenstein series of games (an announcement which is now lost way back in the mists of time) but a lot of my fears were rather quickly assuaged by the fact that the game would NOT be set during World War 2, like every other Wolfenstein, and also by the trailers which showed an alternate timeline where the Nazi’s won World War 2 and now ruled the world (and indeed everything else as well basically). This alone seemed like a decent selling point as I am new enough to cyberpunk and steampunk that I am not worn out on them yet but it also was rather innovative, in a slightly cheating sort of way. I have no excuses of any real merit as to why I have not posted any News for the last two months and a half. Minus a week that I spent on Holiday without internet and the few days it took to move into my new student flat I really could have been posting Endweek News without any real issues.
Seeing as it has actually been over a month since I last posted any form of News the prospect of posting EVERY piece of interesting News during that time makes me go pale with terror. I’ve posted long News posts before BUT I would very much rather avoid having to write out 10,000 words which, let’s be honest here, few people would ever struggle through (no matter how interesting the content). Instead, I did have a few tidbits I had collected with the intention of posting (but never got round to it) from in between our last post (on the 6th) and the present.
Hopefully the interest level here will make up for the fact that most of them come really rather late…
Tim has been hard at work the past few weeks and has came up with another couple of “My Thoughts On” various different games. Today’s video is a “My Free Thoughts On” the free to play FPS Blacklight Retribution from the developers Perfect World. It’s an awesome semi sci-fi shooter featuring intense combat and a mass of customisation and quite a few nifty gameplay mechanics which make it stand above the usual modern shooter crowd.
To check out some of the gameplay and to hear what Tim thinks about the game you should check out after the jump and, as always, the official MMGaming rating of the game will be after the video. Also, once you check out the video and realise that the game is pretty damn awesome you can head to the above link and download it!
Those of you interested in this particular instalment of Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon series will probably be interested to know that starting on March 5th there will be a closed Beta for Ghost Recon Online so you can check out the gameplay and the classes. You can sign up for the Beta here.
Ubisoft have also revealed that you earn experience for each class you play as, so you might want to try out each one of the three a bit in order to get a proper idea of how they will play. As a free-to-play game (and being developed by Ubisoft no less) the game is obviously worthy of our interest. But forgive me if yet another modern style FPS has me feeling less than overwhelmed.
I’m still aiming for an air of being aloof and not really caring too much about Aliens: Colonial Marines, due to the poor experiences I’ve had with past Alien/Predator games. But I have to say this latest gameplay trailer actually doesn’t look all that bad and you can check it out here after the jump! Continue reading
Well I finally got my act together and here is my long-awaited and long-outdated review of Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad. First off, just to goad Tim a little, I will say that I had perfectly good reasons for not being able to get this done sooner! Plus a diary of my slow adventures through it like I am doing with Gears of War 3 would have just been silly. Because every single mission is the same.
Blast! I meant to say something nice first! Otherwise it won’t make any sense… Okay, take a chill pill and let’s get started.
