A close friend of mine became rather addicted to Neptune’s Pride 2: Triton in the early months of this year, after I introduced it to him. Part of his addiction has led to the playing of many games, far more than I’ve ever played, and in his time he even managed to secure a place in the group stages of the Neptune’s Pride 2 World Championship back in July (3 games of 6 people). Due to the importance of the game to himself and to the community of Neptune’s Pride, I persuaded Sam to keep a log of the major events (similar to that done by both us and Rock, Paper Shotgun) and he went a step further to keep a detailed and entertaining diary. I will post the diary in short segments for you reading pleasure!
I have no excuses of any real merit as to why I have not posted any News for the last two months and a half. Minus a week that I spent on Holiday without internet and the few days it took to move into my new student flat I really could have been posting Endweek News without any real issues.
Seeing as it has actually been over a month since I last posted any form of News the prospect of posting EVERY piece of interesting News during that time makes me go pale with terror. I’ve posted long News posts before BUT I would very much rather avoid having to write out 10,000 words which, let’s be honest here, few people would ever struggle through (no matter how interesting the content). Instead, I did have a few tidbits I had collected with the intention of posting (but never got round to it) from in between our last post (on the 6th) and the present.
Hopefully the interest level here will make up for the fact that most of them come really rather late…
Another week has passed, I hope that for you it was more productive than mine was. The biggest news that you can expect from me this week is that I completed Deus Ex: Human Revolution on Xbox and despite constantly saving and being more careful than a very careful thing I managed to set off a bloody alarm at SOME point during the game without noticing and thus missed out on an extra 100 achievement points for my gamer-score. Honestly, I think that has thrown me into a bad mood and I… Oh you’re here for some REAL news? I forgot that this Deus Ex stuff wasn’t important…
So what is important eh? What important shiz has been happiziling?
Well Minecraft is, as of last November, officially a game and as such it seems that other gaming websites used this as the perfect opportunity to review it. We did consider jumping on this particular bandwagon but don’t say MMGaming is no different to other Gaming websites because we are only doing it now… With absolutely no reason to whatsoever. Okay honestly we did mean to post this review way-back-when Minecraft first became a game but due to a combination of laziness and no other opportunity to do so we are only posting it now. So welcome to world’s laziest review of the world’s biggest “Indie” game Minecraft. And those quotation marks are there because Mojang had, even prior to Minecraft’s “release”, sold over 4 million copies… which is more than a fair few big, mainstream games I could care to mention. If you noticed Tim’s post yesterday you’ll know that we’ve been making a few plans to change the way we do things here. Most of it comes down to we will be posting less often but will try and make each post count more. As part of this I won’t be posting News every day now, instead I will be combining all the cool news stories of each week into two separate posts. One on Wednesdays and one on Sundays. The Midweek and the Endweek News posts. This is the first post of that layout, so let’s hope it goes well! As always make sure to comment here or via Twitter or Facebook to let us know of your opinions on the change!
So, what’s been in the news since Sunday? Well we’ve got a whole lot of interesting stuff that you can check out after the jump! We’ve got some stats from Bungie about Halo now that they are no longer making the games, gameplay footage of Diablo 3 featuring the Demon Hunter, some game announcements and some trailers. There’s even some stuff about GAME as well!
GAME, one of the major chains of video game stores and outlets in Europe is set to enter administration after a fairly brief (I say fairly brief, it has been in and out of the news since the middle of February) fight with bankruptcy.
As far as I am aware it was first made clear that the chain was in trouble when they closed one of their websites and made it apparent that they would not be stocking Mass Effect 3. This was quickly followed by them announcing that in fact they would not be stocking an awful lot of recent games.
This past Friday GAME held the British Academy Video Games Awards for 2011 and I was watching the second half as it streamed live online. In case you missed it there was a rather cringeable moment when Jonathan Ross came on absolutely drunk as anything! I’ve also decided that, in case you missed it (and you can’t really be bothered going through the list of awards over at the official website), that I would help you folks out and post all the awards and various winners here on MMGaming.
While naturally not as prestigious as the MMGaming Awards, I imagine that some of these were rather sought after by Game companies so it makes for good food for though, if nothing else.
I will post the name of the award, the nominees and the winner of the award. I might also have a wee rant if I decide that the choice they made is something I disagree with. Although, I will try and keep that to a minimum because Tim usually gets on my case when I do stuff like that… Continue reading
