Early in 2013 me and my friends played a closed game of Neptune’s Pride 2: Triton, before even the glorious saga that was the war of the Space Bears. During the surprisingly brief, two-week-long, game I once again kept a journal of the exploits of my Empire in a rise and fall of epic proportions. Despite it now being two years later, I kept all my materials and have finally decided that the time is ripe to post the story. This journal log is part three of four, but you can read the previous entries here and here. Continue reading
Xenonauts by Goldhawk Interactive is billed as the “spiritual successor” for UFO: Enemy Unknown, also known as X-COM: UFO Defense from the early 90’s (thanks Wikipedia!). I.e. back in the day when I was more concerned with learning how to walk and breath simultaneously instead of complex and novel turn-based strategy. X-COM is a turn-based strategy game which was, apparently, a commercial and critical success but honestly I had not heard of it until a few years ago when 2K Interactive rebooted the series with X-COM: Enemy Unknown (taking the best parts of both names and mashing them together to make a new one it would seem). This is also not to be confused with The Bureau: XCOM Declassified which was a 3rd person shooter which was about as successful as warm milk on a hot Summer’s afternoon.
Crusader Kings 2 by Paradox Interactive is a game which has slowly been growing on me over recent months. Since I wrote the official MMGaming review of the game I have been picking it back up again every now and again and continuing a dynasty I started months ago. As I now am nearing the passing of the 200th in-game year I have had some cause to reflect on my dynasty and the success it has had, and I have come to the decision that it is a story I would like to share, because my noble house has indeed had great success. This is not a review or anything of the sort about CK2 but is simply a tale of how a noble house in Scotland has come to rule one of the most powerful nations in the entire world.
It should be noted that most of this story is told from memory, so unfortunately there are no screenshots of most of my progress through the game. I also will be talking about my progress in a way that might not always make sense to someone who hasn’t played CK2, but for the most part I hope it will be easy to follow. Continue reading
A close friend of mine became rather addicted to Neptune’s Pride 2: Triton in the early months of this year, after I introduced it to him. Part of his addiction has led to the playing of many games, far more than I’ve ever played, and in his time he even managed to secure a place in the group stages of the Neptune’s Pride 2 World Championship back in July (3 games of 6 people). Due to the importance of the game to himself and to the community of Neptune’s Pride, I persuaded Sam to keep a log of the major events and he went a step further to keep a detailed and entertaining diary. I will post the diary in short segments for you reading pleasure! Here are the previous entries: Days 1-3, Days 4-7, Days 8-11.
Darksiders, hack-and-slasher by Vigil Games and THQ is a game in which you control one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse returns this year with Darksiders 2. While in the first game you controlled War and went about fighting the forces of both Heaven and Hell, Darksiders 2 sees you take control of Death.
While it’s true I’ve never played the first one I have to say the premise is pretty damn cool (and looks pretty fucking cool as well). Plus the new cinematic trailer is absolutely awesome! Check it out after the jump.
I think I need to go have a cigarette or something, yeah it was THAT intense… Seriously though, I LOVE Assassin’s Creed. I’m not going to say it’s the best series of games ever, that would just be the little fan-boy inside of me talking.
But as a fan-boy… IT’S ONE OF THE BEST SERIES OF GAMES EVER!!! I’MA MAKE MYSELF A HIDDEN BLADE!!!
Bioware have released the official launch trailer for Mass Effect 3. It’s a couple of minutes of emotion-draining and courage-inducing awesome. Everything about it makes you want to be part of the Universe that Bioware have managed to create. And more than that, they’ve made me (somehow) even more excited and desperate to get this game. Check it out after the jump folks!
Mass Effect isn’t just a game… it’s a way of life… And you can join into that way of life on the 6th in North America and the 9th in Europe.
