Dishonored 2 review – Blink and you miss it

It doesn’t bother me… I swear! I’ve aged, I’ve grown, I’ve matured. I am both wiser and more benevolent for my years, more accepting of the way others do things even if I’d have done it differently. Except none of this is true, and GODAMMIT BETHESDA, how hard would it have been to release a version of the game with the PROPER GODAMN SPELLING OF “DISHONOURED”?! Okay… Seriously now. Serious game review. Yes.

Vermintide review – Ahm not a raaaaat!

Have you and your friends ever done that thing? Y’know, it’s later in the evening when someone says “man I kind of want to play some co-op games!” Then there’s the inevitable struggle to find something everybody enjoys and, more importantly, owns. Invariably, in these situations one ends up browsing Steam and the web for lists of the “best multiplayer games” so that you can avoid playing hours of Garry’s Mod (which, let’s be fair, tends to only be amusing in short stints). Every single one of these lists almost always makes some mention of Left 4 Dead and how it is a quintessential multiplayer and co-op experience (both local and remote). So it has always confused me how it seems nobody has really quite captured the same feeling of the games. Well, look no further friends, because Warhammer *hurrrk* The End Times *hurrrk* Vermintide does actually more than just come close. Aside from the silliness of having two subtitles (when really just “Vermintide” suffices) the game does so much right that I feel the need to say that it is definitely more than just a carbon copy of L4D.

Telltale’s Batman review – I’m the gosh-darned Batman!

As always, I waited until the final episode of Telltale’s Batman was released before playing the series (more-or-less) straight through. It used to be the case that my intro when writing about a Telltale game would be a fairly boring affair (and indeed much of the review would be as well) as my praise for the game they produced tended to almost be as formulaic as the games themselves. Lately though, Telltale has been fairly prolific, with essentially two major series released every year for at least the last three years in a row. However, perhaps as a by-product of this increased output, there has been a rather significant drop in the quality of the games produced over that time. Other than their flagship Walking Dead series I have had mixed feelings towards their different titles, from definite enjoyment of the Wolf Among Us and Tales from the Borderlands to outright loathing of Minecraft: Story Mode.

King’s Bounty: Dark Side review – If only you knew the lack of power of the Dark Side

Review written by Lamios. The King’s Bounty series is the very definition of niche, and it most surely isn’t for everyone. While the combat is generally enjoyable and moderately challenging, the particular flavour or humour is often grating and just as often inconsistent in tone. Furthermore, if Blizzard games are known to be polished if nothing else, King’s Bounty is about as polished as your standard elementary school English essay – and, occasionally, it has that level of grammar too. Nevertheless, there is a game to be enjoyed in King’s Bounty: Dark Side. It’s just that it’s hidden under so many little annoyances that you need to be in a very particular mindset in order to experience it.

One Night Ultimate Werewolf board game review – If you have to kill me, at least kill him too

At MMGaming we don’t just draw the line at video games. We’re geeks through and through and something we have slowly but surely be gaining a profound appreciation of over the past few years is Board Games. So it seems reasonable that now we have developed a decent repertoire of board games, that we could start reviewing them in the same way we video games. One Night Ultimate Werewolf and the subsequent One Night Ultimate Vampire are both, together (because they are not entirely separate games), easily within my top 3 board games of all time and have been sitting there proudly ever since they soared there so effortlessly.

Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt review – Triss and Yen have competition…

Honestly I kind of spaffed my load early when it comes to what I think about the Witcher 3. I said it in our 2015 Gaming Awards but I’ll go ahead and say it again now. The Witcher 3 is not just mine and Tim’s Game of the Year for 2015, but quite honestly I do see it as being my absolute favourite game of all time and very likely the outright best made to date. It is absolutely an instant classic, damn near perfect in every way that counts and I don’t see anything knocking it from the top spot of my list for years to come. That is an exceptionally strong claim to be making right at the start of this review, but I did want to clarify that so that if I spend the next 3000+ words ranting and raving about just how damned good it is, you knew what you were getting into when you started reading after the jump.

Syndrome review – Syndrome of a Down.

One of the worst things about becoming at least reasonably clued in to any particular medium is that you begin to recognise the patterns and tropes between titles. No longer do you approach every film/book/game with wide eyed optimism but instead with a leery cynicism as you point out every single thing that has been done previously. Of course, sometimes this sort of thing is just made a bit too easy for you and such is the case with Syndrome, a new indie horror by Camel101 in conjunction with Bigmoon Entertainment (the company behind Lichdom Battlemage).

Tyranny Review – It Feels Good To Be The Bad Guy (Spoiler Free)

  I feel like I need to preface this review with my previous exposure to isometric RPGs. I’m too young to have fully appreciated “old school” RPGs such as Baldurs gate, Planescape: Torment and Wasteland. I did indeed play Baldurs gate and Baldurs gate 2. The first of which was my mothers purchase when I must have been around 7 or 8 years old, 1999 or 2000. Obviously being a complex RPG the nuances were completely lost on me.

Fallout 4 review – I totally want to set the world on fire

Fallout 4 was my runner-up Game of the Year for 2015, and I want you to keep that fact in mind for the duration of this review. I enjoyed it a lot more than I think did a large amount of the gaming community, because despite a hugely successful launch I do continuously hear small niggling complaints about it. After all, as this is a Bethesda open-world RPG and so one expects to hear only praise and memes about it for the next 5 years, but one cannot help but notice that on places like Steam and Metacritic the average score is rather lower than one might expect. Unfortunately as well, is that these complaints were often about things that I too picked up on. So allow me to preface that despite the fact that this review might well sound rather negative, I did most definitely absolutely enjoy the game.
