A Game of Thrones: The Game

So… A Game of Thrones: Genesis… An RTS set in the Game of Thrones world (before the events of the first book). Colour me interested. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, The Song of Ice and Fire series by George R. R. Martin are among the best books I have ever read and so I find pretty much most things to do with it cool and interesting. I’m still gutted I haven’t seen the TV series yet.

But a video game. Now that should be reaaaally interesting. Especially as the developers, Cyanide Studios, say you can play the game without ever entering open war or even building armies. So, like the books, it might well be all about the back-stabbing and political intrigue and the hot, hot, wincest… Wait what? Did I say that out loud? Shit…

But, no seriously, it sounds like an intriguing idea for a game even without the awesome setting. So it might well be worth our while to keep this on our radar.

Also interesting is that supposedly the same company is making a Song of Ice and Fire RPG… which would be even more awesome. So I imagine you guys will definitely hear more about that from me.

Check out some cool screenshots and the trailer here:

Hmm, I dunno… I love the books as much as the next nerd but a game? seriously?

seems to me that this is just another example of a marketing department going “The shows and the books were a success. what else are our demographic into? I know we’ll make a game!” its a logical step but not what I’d call a necessary one.

And if the developers are fans their likely to fill the thing up with tons of cameos and references. There’s a chance this could all get a little sad.
