Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs is indeed the title of the next game to be produced by Frictional Entertainment, and no the title doesn’t make sense to me either. It’s also being developed by TheChineseRoom (the same people who brought us Dear Esther) so I think we can quite possibly expect an awful lot of awesome coming our way.
If you’ve visited the official teaser website and click on the picture you are taken to an alternate reality game (which I haven’t really looked at, couldn’t really work it out) which has naturally been driving fans and gaming websites alike into an absolute frenzy.
While no release date has been set yet I understand that it is coming out sometime this year (looks like I’m going to have to start saving my money for yet ANOTHER game). According to the writer of Dear Esther, Amnesia will be set in the same alternate universe and a similar time period, but it won’t really be related to the previous Amnesia and doesn’t follow on from it.
The game will be set in 1899 and will follow the escapades of the “wealthy industrialist” Oswald Mandus, who after returning home from an expidition to Mexico which went horribly wrong (that sounds familiar) was struck by an awful fever and illness. Oswald has nightmares of a dark and evil machine while he sleeps through his fever and then suddenly he regains conciousness. Unbeknownst to Oswald months have passed and as he emerges from his sleep an evil machine sparks into life…
I guess we’re going to have to stock up on pillows and hugable blankets… Prepare to have the piss scared out of you chaps!
