Blizzard DOTA: Explanation Here

Okay… Now.. Hang on just a second… Don’t worry everyone, I’ve worked it out! There IS a difference between the upcoming Blizzard DOTA (Defence of the Ancients) and DOTA 2 (by Valve Software).

No seriously! It actually took me a couple of minutes to work out that they were not the same thing. But then, have you noticed the stupidly similar titles? Heh, I think I might well be the reason Bethesda decided to sue Notch… I mean who knew that Notch was helping to develop Skyrim! Wait what?

Well, it wouldn’t be like Blizz to miss out on the opportunity to exchange those cheap gold mansions for some solid diamond ones. And as TDHBRTSGs are popular at the moment, Blizz are coming at us with their own version. Although it does seem to be a not-so-serious version and so it might well be a laugh in it’s own right. As far as I understand Blizzard’s DotA will be a mod for Starcraft 2. So if you own the full version of SC2 (like me… I think) you are in the money. If you have the Starcraft 2 Starter Edition then you will also be able to play the mod, but with some additional costs (it’s not yet clear what those will be).

In fact on the subject of costs, it really isn’t clear overall what the prices of anything will be. So I’m going to go ahead and put that into the “find-out-later” pile. Yeah… Man that pile is getting big now…

Anyway, it seems that all (or at least the majority) of the champions for Blizzard DotA will be characters and heroes from previous games: Thrall, Nova, Arthas are all mentioned in the trailer. Assuming it is free then I reckon when it arrives you guys can expect a review from us pretty quickly. I also am going to go out on a limb here and say I reckon it might well be quite good. Even minus the feeling of nostalgia I will get from playing as characters from Warcraft 3!
