A few days ago a new Guinness World Record was set for the most gamers playing on one single online multiplayer server at the same time. Around 1000 people were all online at the same time in one gigantic battlefield with lazers and profanity flying every which way.
Developed by Much Different, Man Vs. Machine (the game in question) wasn’t supposed to be about great gameplay or amazing graphics or anything. In fact all of that is very basic when you see the video of the event itself. What it was designed to do, however, was demonstrate a new system for creating massive online battles.
While it may not be much to look at, it’s certainly a start towards a new type of online play. Massively Multiplayer FPSes anyone?
Anyway, you can check out the video of the server as it reached 1,000 players and set a new world record. But like I said, expect it to not look amazing and you ought to be aware that there was some serious internet-style slagging off going on.
