Assassin’s Creed 3 Reveal – Possibly sooner than expected!

Monday the 5th. At 5:00pm. A day for all our diaries because that is when this website’s countdown runs out and we will get the official announcement and reveal of Assassin’s Creed 3.

Ubisoft, god-bless ’em, I do love them but they must seriously have firewalls made of paper and the security teams from  Assassin’s Creed because I swear SO much of their stuff gets leaked before they want it to.

Of course, it could all just be a clever marketing ploy to generate extra hype and excitement, in which case they are evil geniuses, but surely they are too innocent and good-hearted for that?

Anyway, as well as having the box-art for Assassin’s Creed 3 leaked early some screenshots have no managed to find their way onto All Games Beta (a few of which I’ve posted at the top and bottom of this news post). Not only that, but some actual details of the game itself have found their way onto the forum: NeoGAF.

Basically the new assassin you will play is called Conner, who’s mother is a Native American and his father is a white settler. The game will take place in between the years 1753-1783 and will centre mainly around Boston and New York. However, returning to the original Assassin’s Creed, there is now a large “wilderness” area between cities and about a third of all the quests and story will take place here.

The game will also feature around major historical events rather than just historical buildings. They are using a new game engine and coupled with that, thousands of new character animations and attacks. Battles will be able to take place with thousands of participants with you at the centre. Plus, as this is the age of guns, the combat now is even more focused on movement and offence. If you stand still, you get shot so Ubisoft want you constantly on the move, leaping from bad-guy to bad-guy.As well as the gun and the tomahawk and a knife which will be Conner’s main weapons (allowing him to perform multiple takedowns, double counters and chain kills), Conner WILL also have a hidden blade (thank god).

Basically their new engine seems to allow them to everything bigger and better and more awesome! There will be seasons and NPCs will actually react to the change in seasons, i.e. in frozen winter the soldiers will stumble around being all cold and shit. Plus! Even better news! The British are not “evil colonial bastards” which suggests to me that you might actually take quests from both sides during the campaign (as well as from the French and Native Americans).

All in all it does sound like it’s shaping up to be absolutely fantastic! A genuine improvement and step up from previous Assassin’s Creed games? I cannot wait!

Oh… I almost forgot… NO MORE BLOODY TOWER DEFENCES!!! HUZZAH!!!
