Endweek News

You will have, obviously noticed that last week we had no news on Sunday and that this week we actually had no news on Wednesday either. And there are very good reasons for both of these things. As you might be aware I am in the middle of my exam period and I’m finding it a little more difficult to make the time to do the news. But don’t worry, after next week things ought to return to pretty much normal as both me and Tim will be finished.

And so we’ll need to come up with an excuse other than “We are lazy sons-of-bitches!”

Also, we are still playing around with our new “4 posts per week” system and have decided to only have one session of news on most weeks. While you might still see some Midweek News at some point in the future, for now we are going to be doing two reviews a week, on Wednesdays and Fridays. Anyway, “reasons” over! Let’s see what’s been happening in the world of video games for the last two weeks. Continue reading

Valve Box – NOT Coming any time soon

There were recently rumours about the possibility that Valve might be making a console, commonly referred to as a Steam Box (or at least I called it that). Well, bad news anyone who thought this was a good idea as it has been confirmed by Valve that they are NOT making a console, nor have they any plans to do so any time soon.

No XBox 720 or PS4

I write this with a heavy heart and a slow hand. I didn’t get much news out yesterday or the day before, and for that I make no excuses and promise to be back on the ball over the Weekend. One thing I couldn’t simply let pass without posting (even for a few hours) is the fact that in a press release to Kotaku Microsoft have announced that they have NO plans to announce or reveal a successor to the XBox 360 at E3 or at any other time this year.

All my excitement and rumour-mongering has come to naught as Microsoft crush my dreams for a true Next Gen Console sometime in the near future. Sony also announced that they wouldn’t be revealing a PS4 any time soon either which was, while not a massive a blow as the loss of the 720, also a disappointment.

Doom 4 Leaked Art and Rumours

Once again it seems that there were recently rumours that ID Software had cancelled Doom 4. This was coupled with the leaking of, I understand hundreds, of concept art, pictures and graphics all supposedly of Doom 4. Now you might have already heard about either one of these (the leak or the rumours) and wonder why we haven’t covered it yet. Well the reason is quite simple, I just wanted to make sure that I didn’t waste my own time (and yours) with MORE speculation.

And I was in the right, on both counts bizarrely. Doesn’t happen often.

Valve Console Rumours

There has been rumours and speculation (thanks to an article from Verge) flying around that Valve might make a “Steam Box” console, so theoretically we could play games we buy on Steam on both our computers and this new box-console thing!

Of course it should be said it IS all speculation and hearsay right now but I have to say I came worryingly close to throwing my money at the screen again (I still haven’t found the money I threw while I was watching the Assassin’s Creed 3 trailer). Which would have been especially problematic as I only have change on me right now… I could’ve scratched my screen…

Baldur’s Gate shenanigans

Something interesting appears to be happening over at Baldursgate.com. While nothing more than a teaser image with some very nostalgia inducing music at the moment there has been confirmation from Trent Oster and his team at Beamdog that SOMETHING is in the works. And that something is Baldur’s Gate related, but not related to the Baldur’s Gate: Complete Edition.

Some have suggested that it could be the sign of an HD version of Baldur’s Gate in the works. Me? I honestly can’t even speculate right now and so all I can say is that I will keep abreast of any interesting developments. While I never really properly got into Baldur’s Gate as I was too young to properly appreciate it when it came out I will say I have fond memories of it and new developments do tickle my interest, if only slightly…

Mass Effect 3 save files – Keep them too!

Associate producer for Mass Effect 3, Mike Gamble, said in a recent interview with Gamerzines that it “might not be a bad idea” to hang on to your saved games for Mass Effect 3 after completing it.

Naturally this has fired up the rumour mill into a frenzy, especially as he didn’t really go into specifics. It could just be so you could play some planned DLC for the game but, what if there are more Mass Effect games planned. Maybe games that won’t have Shepard as the protagonist but the decisions you make as Shepard will continue to define and change the galaxy beyond even his games (as would make sense).
